The Dojo

The Actor's Dojo

What are we about?

We exist to empower fellow actors to empower themselves. We'll cease existing the moment the industry and training bodies make a systemic shift toward actor peak performance and holistic well-being. Until then, we got 'chu 👊🏌

How do we do this?

We study the best frameworks and practices from sport science, then alchemise these into skills and strategies to facilitate actor peak performance and holistic well-being.

Essentially, we do a shed tonne of research (so you don't have to) and turn game-changing insights originally intended for athletes into game-changing insights specifically tailored to actors.

Why the "Dojo"?

"Dojo" is a Japanese word comprised of dō (way, pursuit) + jō (a place). Thus, "dojo" refers to a place dedicated to a specific pursuit.

More poetically, however, we love this from Joe Hyams in Zen in the Martial Arts:

"A dojo is a miniature cosmos where we make contact with ourselves – our fears, anxieties, reactions, and habits. It is an arena of confined conflict where we confront an opponent who is not an opponent but rather a partner engaged in helping us understand ourselves more fully."
